I have put the Fall 98 newsletter online. There are several pages which are not online and will be in the printed newsletter being mailed to the family in October.
Reunion 98
The 1998 Orlandi-Bassetti Family Reunion was awesome! If you didn=t join us this year you missed one of the most exciting reunions in recent times. There were many new faces in the crowd this year and the ATraveling Award@ went to Renzo and Daniela Orlandi who came from Bologna Italy for the reunion. (See an article on Renzo and Daniela on page 2).
The
events started on Friday evening with a welcoming party hosted by Rosemarie and Dave
Livengood at their home. Some of the Orlandi=s
from the local area joined Rosemarie and Dave in welcoming the out of town guests from New
York and from Italy. There was a marshmallow roast following the hamburgers, hot dogs,
kielbasa and corn on the cob cooked up by Chef Dave and his trusty assistant Bob Larrimer.
The children from New York enjoyed their time spent with the sheep and steers being raised
by David and Erin Livengood. Louis Orlandi and family presented Jack Orlandi AThe Orlandi Family Reunion Bell@ to use during the reunion to gain the
attention of the family. Louis said last year when Jack beat the pots and pans trying to
speak nobody paid attention so he wanted something better for this year. The bell in fact
did what Louis wanted....it got their attention.
The
big day, Reunion Day, started with the decorating of the Jerome Fire Hall. The American
and Italian Flags were proudly displayed along with red, white and green pennants and
tablecloths. There were 3 poster cards for all to sign their greetings which were then
sent to the relatives in Italy and Argentina. This year there were family introductions
during the dinner. And dinner itself had some good home cooked food and plenty of
desserts. After dinner Erin Livengood and Colette Orlandi had the young children play some
games and the highlight of the games was the APinata@. While the kids had fun swinging away and
eventually breaking the Pinata to get the candy inside we saw a ABig Kid@ named Aldo Orlandi gathering some of the candy also. There were old
photographs from various families on display as well as the family tree. And of course the
Reunion wouldn=t be the same without
the musicians and our hats are off to all of you for entertaining us.
On Sunday morning there was a breakfast, organized by Georgiann Panek, at the Ramada Inn where most of the out of town guests were staying. It was a great way to end Reunion98 Weekend and there were 50 people for breakfast. After breakfast there were the partings which each year becomes harder.
There are many people to thank for making Reunion98 a success. The organizers, the decorators, the games committee, the cooks, the musicians and most importantly all who came.
Next year talk to relatives that didn
=t come and encourage them to come to Reunion99 on August 7th.
Reunion T-Shirts
a Big Hit!
A big thanks to Georgiann Panek, Reggie Larrimer, James Orlandi and Sonny Rinaldo for all of the work done to bring the the Orlandi-Bassetti Reunion T-Shirts to life! The sale of the shirts was handled by Nancy Orlandi. We had 108 shirts printed in two different colors and all sold except for five.
Three weeks before the Reunion Georgiann and Reggie suggested that we come up with some
type of t-shirt for our reunion. We didn=t
think there would be enough time or much more importantly if anyone would buy them if we
had them printed. We forged ahead and called James and Nancy Orlandi who both thought it
was a great idea and Jim said that he would come up with some type of logo as well as to
check with Sonny Rinaldo about the t-shirts and printing. Within 2 days Jim had a logo
that we decided upon and Sonny had the 108 shirts printed in time for the reunion.
At the reunion the shirts went like hotcakes at $7.50 each. As mentioned we do have 5 shirts remaining and if you
=d like to buy one please contact me....we=ll still sell them at $7.50.
